NGA West Access Points

The access point buildings for the new NGA West campus in St. Louis carry the security envelope for a federal facility, which puts the air barrier under real scrutiny: it has to be installed to spec and verified, not assumed. Air barrier performance is easy to compromise during installation and hard to correct once cladding closes it in, so independent inspection during the work is where the value lands.

G&W’s scope followed the air barrier from documentation through installed verification. Pre-construction review covered the specifications, drawings, submittals, and manufacturer requirements, and an initial site visit assessed substrate readiness before application. Three installation observation visits confirmed conformance with the manufacturer’s requirements, including wet film thickness checks during application, and adhesion testing per ASTM D4541 verified bond on the installed barrier. Each visit produced a written report of observations and test results measured against the project specification.
